So here goes the first post! There have been so many new and exciting changes for us in the past month and a half. We were married in the beginning of January and hadn't lived together beforehand, so that was an adjustment, although not as hard as we may have thought! We love living together and being married. There's such a closeness that develops just within that first month. No matter how long, (or not so long, in our case) that you may have dated, you just get to know one another in new ways every day! The process of being unified into one in the sight of God is just a beautiful thing. The song "Then" by Brad Paisley hits home with us. "And I thought I love you then..."
In our reading and discussion in the past couple of months, divorce has been a hot topic. With so much of it happening today, it's important to see exactly what God has to say about the subject. Some might argue that the Bible is outdated on some topics, and that it needs to viewed in the context of social norms of the day, but the truth is that once two people are joined in marriage, before the holy God, he sees not two, but one (Matthew 19:6). That never changes. It wasn't right when God gave Moses the Law, and it's not right today. No matter what piece of paper is issued, the two are always one to God. Which is why in the case of remarriage, the Bible says that one commits adultery if he/she remarries (Luke 16:18). I don't write on this to sound prideful and to pronounce judgement, I write it because before I was more wishy-washy on the subject, and I want to have a firm stance in what the Word says. It just goes to show me that I am in need of God's grace and mercy to make my own marriage solid.
On a lighter note, we are both so excited and thankful for the jobs God has provided! Mark is the new Program Director at Camp Haluwasa in South Jersey. ( www.haluwasa.org - check it out!) It requires a lot of time from him, especially in the summer, but we have both experienced how life-changing camp is for teens. As for me, I am now a new part-time Crew Member at Trader Joe's! It's a fun place to work and the benefits are unbeatable! (This also means I can shop some...besides saving for a house!) God is SO good!
Stay tuned as our adventures continue. God has great things in store for us, we can feel it!
